Opened in November 2014, Spy Pond Photo Space is the newest art gallery in Ireland devoted to photography. In promoting promising local talent and international artists into the limelight the gallery functions as a springboard for emerging and established artists specializing in photo-based art. This gives the gallery a broad network of collectors, artists and curators. It is hard to qualify what makes a typical Spy Pond artist. Their styles, media and artistic approaches all differ vastly. What they do have in common is a serious commitment to their profession and a refreshing perspective on our world emphasizing the artistic scope of photography and exploring its relation to other arts. Since its discovery in the middle of the nineteenth century, photography had developed into the layman's way of capturing their surroundings. To see the potential for high art in the medium artists continue to take risks in new ways of expression through photography. The Photo Space is here to expose this part of this world to the wide realm of the fine art of photography. While social networking and the age of instant low quality images is ubiquitous, we wish to expose the artistic capacity of the photograph.
